Oral surgery series overview
This Course consists of 3 Model based modules and a 2 day Cadaver based module designed to consolidate undergraduate and early career experience in Exodontia and Minor Oral Surgery knowledge and techniques for the General Dental Practitioner.
The Course will provide updated review of important aspects of patient management required to safely carry out Exodontia and Minor Oral Surgery procedures in the General Dental Practice Setting.
The Course will provide a review of potential complications which may arise when carrying out Exodontia and Minor Oral Surgery procedures in the General Dental Practice Setting to assist attendees in case selection and communication with their patients.
This course is not intended to expand scope of practice.
By providing knowledge review and hands on practical experience the course will assist practitioners in defining their own scope of practice in order to meet their obligations under the Dental Board of Australia’s Registration Standards.

Module 3 Overview
Following a presentation on case selection and treatment planning for wisdom teeth removal attendees will carry out several exercises on models of impacted wisdom teeth of various difficulty levels.
Presentations will be provided on Radiographic Assessment of Third Molar Teeth.
Course prerequisites
This course is open to Registered Dental Practitioners with a minimum of 5 years clinical experience, or those who have completed the Oral Surgery - Module 1Â course. It is recommended that all course modules are completed in order.Â

A/Prof Anthony Lynham
BMed (Hons) FRACDS(OMS) FRCS Ed.
Anthony completed his surgical training in Maxillofacial surgery in Queensland. A Fellowship visit to Switzerland enabled him to gain further experience in this fascinating surgical field. Dr Lynhams’ experience includes dento-alveolar surgery, dental implants, wisdom teeth, facial trauma and reconstruction, sleep apnoea surgery, orthognathic surgery, bone grafting and oro-facial pathology. He has a special interest in orbital surgery , trauma surgery and post traumatic facial reconstructive surgery.
Anthony has returned to practice after serving as a senior government minister. It was here that significant legislative reforms were implemented to lessen the incidence of trauma in our society. He now serves as clinical director at the Jamieson Trauma Institute.
Dr John Arvier
BDSC, MSc, MDS, FADI, FICD, OAM
ADr John Arvier is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with 34 years experience. He practices from the Wesley Medical Centre and branches in Carindale and Sunnybank. Dr Arvier is a Visiting Medical Officer at Queensland Children’s Hospital, and is involved in training the next generation of surgeons in the Queensland region of the training program.
Dr Arvier completed his dental undergraduate training at the University of Queensland, with subsequent post-graduate surgical training at King’s College Hospital Medical School in London, and the Royal Adelaide Hospital & Adelaide University in South Australia. He has a special interest in maxillofacial trauma and is associated with several of the professional football codes in Brisbane. He is also a specialist member of the Medical Assessment Tribunal of Worksafe (Worker’s Compensation) Queensland.
Dr Arvier is a past president and federal councillor of the Queensland Branch of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS), and a former chairman of the Overseas Aid Committee of ANZAOMS. He has made 36 volunteer visits to Bangladesh, Cambodia and Papua New Guinea, and has helped establish formal training programs in these regions. He was the inaugural examiner in all 3 regions, and has also made three volunteer visits to Africa; firstly to Congo with AusHEAL, and then Ethiopia and Somaliland with Australian Doctors for Africa (ADFA). Dr Arvier is also a long term member of Rotary, and has treated many patients brought to The Wesley Hospital for pro bono surgical procedures not available in their home countries.
