Course Overview
The main purpose of VPT is to eliminate pulpitis by promoting the formation of reparative dentin or calcium bridge so that it can continue to perform various physiological functions and finally achieve the purpose of preserving pulp vitality and the long-term preservation of affected teeth.

Learning Objectives
1. Better understanding of the current science on the pulp’s response to deep caries.
2. Recognise the different appearances of a pulpal exposure.
3. Recognise the appearance of vital pulp tissue.
4. Handling of and placement of tricalcium silicate cements on vital pulp.
5. Place Biodentine on an exposed pulp in an artificial tooth.
Presenter biography
Dr Paul Renner
BDSc, FICD
Dr Paul Renner has over 40 years in general dentistry, including academic, general and government practice. Including over
30 years as the principal and owner of a large general practice situated in the Dalby.
For over fifteen years Dr Renner has held a part time position as a clinical demonstrator/supervisor at the UQ School of Dentistry, firstly in 4th year fixed prosthodontics and then in 5th year GDP clinics.
He has lectured at several implant training courses for Anthogyr Pty Ltd (manufacturer of Axiom implants) at their facility in Sallanches, France.
He has also run courses for various groups of dentists and their staff in dental photography and processing of dental images.
For many years Dr Renner taught the dental anatomy and infection control modules for the ADAQ certificate III in dental assisting.
Dr Bill Kahler
BDSc FRACDS MScDent DClinDent PhD MRACDS (Endo) FICD
Dr Kahler graduated from the University of Queensland dental school in 1983. Bill practised in private care all around Australia for a number of years before training for a clinical doctorate in Endodontics.
He has an active interest in Endodontic research, publishing clinical research and case reports in dentistry, material science and engineering journals. He teaches and lectures locally and internationally, and acts as a reviewer for a number of leading dental journals.
Bill has received a number of Fellowships from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and the International College of Dentists.
He has taught at the University of Adelaide and the University of Queensland, where he acted as Director of the Post-Graduate Programme. In addition to his private practice, Bill works at a specialist paediatric government clinic as an Endodontic Consultant. In his spare time, Bill enjoys relaxing with his family, travel, food and skiing.
