ADC Skills Revision for Overseas Trained Dentists
This new skills revision course aims to provide international graduates and clinicians returning from a career break with opportunities for revising core dentistry skills in a state-of-the-art simulation clinic setup, with feedback and support from demonstrators and educators who are specialists in their fields. The focus will be on developing or maintaining effective communication skills and infection control standards.

EVENT overview

As the professional organisation for dentists, ADAQ is best placed to provide quality evidence-based advice and safe practice environments for participants, including a simulation laboratory and fully equipped dental surgery. 
The refresher bundle includes preparatory e-learning modules, and four days of intensive lectures and practice sessions at our Simulation Lab facilities in Bowen Hills, Brisbane.

Offered in a state-of-the-art simulation clinic setup, with feedback and support from demonstrators and educators who are specialists in their fields.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of the four-day refresher course, participants will be able to:
  1. Review basic operative dentistry skills and other technical skills required to practice in Australia, especially relating to restorative dentistry, basic endodontics, local anaesthetic, periodontics checks, intra-oral radiography.
  2. Confidently apply infection control protocols in the dental surgery.
  3. Display good knowledge of basic dentistry principles and skills required for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  4. Apply clinical reasoning and judgement to given scenarios to design a treatment plan that offers best patient outcomes.
  5. Reflect on own communication skills in practice and ways of building an effective patient-practitioner relationship.
  6. Identify further steps and resources to bridge gaps and develop own knowledge.

Speaker biography

Dr Ramman Oberoi
Prosthodontist
BDS, DClinDent (Prosth) (Melb)
Dr Oberoi attained her certificate in dentistry in 2007. After working for nearly 3 years as a general dentist in Kenmore, she completed Doctor of Clinical Dentistry, specialising in Prosthodontics at Melbourne University. She has been in a specialist Private Prosthodontic Practice on the Sunshine Coast since 2015. Dr Oberoi-Gutteridge is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Prosthodontists. She has a strong passion for teaching and was involved in restorative and implant teaching with dental graduates, undergraduates, prosthetists and therapists at Melbourne University. She has also been involved with the training of overseas dentists at Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital and the Asia-Pacific Institute for Dental Education and Research in Toorak, Melbourne. Dr Oberoi is currently studying Maxillofacial Prosthodontics at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

Dr Oberoi will be supported by an Endodontist and a specialist in Oral Medicine.

Dr Martin Webb
BDSc (HONS) Qld 1990  FICD FPFA FADI  MAICD

Dr Martin Webb is a dentist in private practice at Maleny, on the hinterland of the Sunshine Coast. He has held various positions within the Dental profession namely ADA Federal Vice President”, ADAQ State President 2007, member of ADAQ Executive 2001-2008 then 2014-2020.
Dr Webb has served on the ADA Inc Schedule & Third Party Committee since 2008. Within that Committee he has acted as the state “expert opinion” on the interpretation of the ADA Schedule by dentists, their staff and PHI’s. Dr Webb has liaised with Dentists having difficulties with Medicare and DVA, including assisting them with audits. He also acts as the ADAQ PHI liaison officer to assist members with PHI complaints and investigations. In 2014 Dr Webb became an approved AHPRA and OHO Auditor. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, the Academy of Dentistry International and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.  In 2016, Martin was awarded a Distinguished Service Award by the ADAQ, one of only 19 individuals in Queensland’s history to have been awarded this honour. Dr Webb has recently joined the ADA Inc Infection Control committee and has previously served on the ADA Inc Audit and Risk committee.


Ms Larissa Alderton
BoralH, MHM - ADAQ Compliance, Advice and Policy - Senior Advisor

Larissa graduated with a Bachelor of Oral Health in Oral Health Therapy and Master of Health Management, with a focus on health care law and ethics and research. Larissa has worked in the dental profession since 2004 with experience in private practice, the University sector and the NHS in the United Kingdom. Larissa’s academic background and clinical experience puts her in an ideal position to assist ADAQ members with patient complaints, health fund audits, regulatory notification and insurance queries.
