COURSE OVERVIEW
The course aims to assist the practitioner and/or assistant to master the skills required to efficiently scrub-in, drape, assist or perform surgery in a safe and appropriately sterile environment.
This course will address principles of sterile aseptic technique which must be applied to all surgical procedures undertaken in the dental practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
For individual practices to implement these sterile surgical procedures by managing infection control requirements for oral surgical procedures including:
- surgical hand antisepsis
- correct donning technique of sterile gowns and gloves
- identification and placement of appropriate sterile drapes
- sterile instruments
- managing sterile field
PRESENTERS
Emeritus Professor Laurence Walsh AO
BDSc, PhD, DDSc, GCEd, FRACDS, FFOP(RCPA), FIADFE, FICD, FADI, FPFA
Laurence Walsh was Professor of Dental Science at UQ from 2000-2020. He now contributes to UQ as an emeritus professor to research in advanced technologies and materials. Laurie is the current president of the Australian Association for Laser Dentistry. He is also the lead adviser to ADA Inc on dental bleaching. He has undertaken clinical and laboratory trials for a wide range of lasers and bleaching systems, and he has published extensively on these topics in the national and international literature.
Laurence has over 30 years clinical experience with conventional and laser-based systems for treating more difficult cases including tetracycline staining using lasers. He has presented over 200 hands-on courses on lasers and on tooth bleaching systems and technologies across the Asia-Pacific region and in North America.
Maricel Moss
Maricel is a training and practice consultant at ADAQ. Maricel is responsible for delivery of Certificate III and Certificate IV Dental Assisting qualifications, providing advice and assistance with infection control, practice documentation, practice management, accreditation and infection control staff training.
Michelle Banning
BComm (UOW), DipEvents
Michelle is a qualified Dental Assistant with 5 years experience working as a surgical assistant at a specialist practice, where she assisted in surgical extractions, implant placement, mucogingival grafting, canine exposures and various types of bone grafting procedures. Michelle has a certificate III in Dental Assisting, and has completed additional training in infection control, biomaterials, oral hygiene, periodontal disease and practice management.
