Course Overview

Explains the anatomy of the various structures of relevance to implants to provide an excellent basis for interpreting individual patient anatomy and increasing success.    
Skeletal anatomy and important soft tissue relations including vessels, nerves and glands and variations of importance in implant planning and placement. 


Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Understand and be able to explain bony anatomy of the maxillae, zygomatic bones and mandible.
  • Understand and be able to explain how bony anatomy of the maxillae, zygomatic bones and mandible can vary in individuals and the implications of this for implant planning.
  • Be able to explain normal pathways and possible variations in nerve anatomy in the mandible.

Presenter/s biography

Associate Professor Alex Forrest AO

Alex is well recognised for his expertise in Human Anatomy, Forensic Odontology, Human Forensic Identification, including 3-D technologies and Bite Mark Analysis. He is currently Honorary Associate Professor for the School of Dentistry with University of Queensland, Adjunct Associate Professor of Forensic Odontology with Griffith University, and Director of Forensic Odontology at Health Support Queensland Forensic and Scientific Services. 

Alex also convenes the annual Disaster Victim Identification course for ADAQ.
