Our patients are becoming increasingly aware of the impact that their smile has on their confidence and quality of life. Their keen attention to detail has seen the goal post shift from, initially being solely concerned with teeth having perfect dimensions and shade, to now paying close attention to the immaculate framing of the gingival tissues surrounding these teeth. Dr Marina Kamel, a Brisbane-based specialist periodontist, will discuss the aetiology of gingival recession. She will discuss the rationale for managing recession, the options available to the patient, the anticipated outcomes, and help develop a decision making tree on when to refer and what to expect for each recession type.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Be familiar with the classification of gingival recessions
- Understand all the aetiological factors that can contribute to development of recession
- Understand the rationale for managing gingival recession and when to refer
- Be familiar with the various management protocols for gingival recession and the decision-making tree
- Understand the link between recession class and anticipated outcomes
- Develop communication skills to discuss gingival recession with your patient
