Professional Communication

This lecture is designed for all dental practitioners including hygienists and oral health therapists.

Course Overview

Professional communication is becoming an important focus by the Dental Board when they are investigating a complaint against you by a patient.

This presentation will demonstrate how effective clinical communication strategies can mitigate the risk of a patient making a complaint and also help you with managing that complaint to hopefully avoid that turning into a legal claim or an Ahpra investigation.

Examples and case studies will be shown to demonstrate how the DBA deals with issues around communication for dental practitioners

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand your professional obligations regarding standards of communication with patients and staff.
  • Apply the 4 elements of effective communication strategies to improve your own standards of clinical communication.
  • Learn from case studies where other dental practitioners have been given conditions on their Ahpra registration relating to clinical communication
